Circa 1876 has held an Australian Good Food Guide Chef’s Hat in 2024 and 2025. Its chefs write your menu, and the greens come from the kitchen garden outside the door.
Built in 1909 as a Brigidine convent school in Coonamble, moved to the Hunter piece by piece and reopened in 1991. Verandahs, plane trees, a star-shaped fountain and the range behind.
Nineteen rooms and suites on the estate. Add a welcome dinner the night before, high tea platters on the day and a recovery breakfast after.
White pews in the Circa 1876 gardens or Tiffany chairs lining the aisle to the fountain, and every ceremony site comes with a signing table and a wet-weather alternative.

A ceremony in the forecourt with the fountain and the 1909 facade as the backdrop. Seating for 60, a signing table, and a wet-weather plan.

The gardens beside the restaurant for the vows, then straight through to canapés. Every ceremony site has an alternate plan for rain.

The two-hat restaurant in its historic cottage, with the Champagne Lounge and its open fireplace adjoining. The Alfresco room takes 48 seated for smaller weddings.

Superior, Deluxe and Premier rooms and Garden Suites, steps from the reception, with a full weekend package when your guests book them.
The Convent, its fountain forecourt and the plane-tree drive, with Circa 1876 and Pepper Tree Winery beside it and the Brokenback Range behind.
The Convent was built in 1909 for the Brigidine nuns in Coonamble, taught children until 1980, and was brought here to Pokolbin and rebuilt under the Brokenback Range. It reopened in 1991 as a hotel, and it has been the scene of proposals and weddings ever since.
What sets a wedding here apart is the kitchen. Circa 1876, in the cottage across the garden, has held a Chef’s Hat two years running, and its chefs write your menu from what the estate’s kitchen garden gives them that season. The wine list is hyper-local, with Pepper Tree Winery next door. A Wedding Coordinator is with you from the first meeting to the day.
